Announcements: Birthday Night: President Elect Henry Vinyard announced April birthdays (Kurt Shuster; Joe Stefursky; Hugh Livingston; Chris Layton; Simpson Dunahoo; Tom Lawton; Paul Cunningham; Stacy Hart; Brian Mathias; George Vickers; Gail Anderson; and Dave Schroen).  Hugh Livingston won the cake! 

  • Rocky Burnett had back surgery. He is home and recovering well.
  • Bob Brown updated us on the Romania water system project.  He needs $3000 - $5000 from Rotary. He had a $10,000 matching grant from the district. He would also like to bring to the Romanians: two laptops, small toys for children, coloring books, etc.  All checks and donations should be made out to The Rotary Foundation.
  • Thanks to April Clyde and Committee for Four Way Test Night.  Thanks also to Paul Morris who picked flowers from his garden and arranged floral centerpieces and Jock McNair for another splendid meal through Uptown Chef.
  • John Nicholson announced that he and several other Rotarians are working on a project at Camp Fairlee on Friday.  Volunteers can also go on Sat. He predicted that it wouldn’t rain.
  • Rotary Wine Booth at Salisbury Festival April 25-27.
  • Sunrise Rotary’s Smith Island excursion with the GSE team on Wednesday, April 16th.  The boat will leave Crisfield at 10:00 a.m. and return early afternoon.  The cost of the outing, including lunch, is $25.  Any interested members should email Maggie Porter (Maggie@arconwewld.com) with a copy to Duke Marshall (marshad@nationwide.com) as soon as possible.
  • April and May calendars were reviewed.
  • Norm Baker has been moved to PGH.
  • Mark Glushakow announced that Basket Bingo would be held on June 19 at the Moose Lodge.  He needs 22 sponsors for baskets at $100 a piece.  There will be a signup sheet next week.
  • William and Christine Quinn were inducted.  Their sponsor is Chuck Whitmore. District Conference is April 25 to 27. Thanks to April Clyde for her auction item.  We still need more auctions items. Please take a form and send it in.

Main Program: Gary Mackes introduced the speaker Ray Hoy, President of Wor-Wic Community College.   Ray has been president since 2000.  In his PowerPoint presentation, he updated us on the College. Wor-Wic is a Comprehensive Community College.  He reviewed enrollments statistics as of Fall 2007. For example it is 65% female; 31% minority; 62% Wicomico County residents.  Enrollment has increased 212% over the past 10 years. In terms of economic impact, the regional economy is $185.9 million stronger due to Wor-Wic.  He highlighted the Criminal Justice Academy reported that 100% of the Radiology Tech graduates passed their national licensure exams. New for 2007-08: Forensic Science Program; Nursing Expansion; Talented and Gifted Program for Children; Culinary Arts Program. There are plans for a Allied Health Building.
