Announcements: 

  • Regular meeting of January 24th at RSCC will be an OYSTER ROAST.  Dinner for $15.00 includes all the oysters you can eat, as well as pork BBQ and various side dishes. Bar arrangement will be as usual.  Guests are welcome.  Good head count is necessary, so please contact Jock McNair (A.S.A.P.!!) if you plan to attend & have not already signed up.
  • Don’t forget upcoming Valentine dinner “East of the Bay and West of the Ocean” on February 14th.       Cost per couple is $110.00. Bar, a choice of three entrees (Misty Know Chicken Breast or Szechwan Peppercorn Crusted Angus Beef or Pan Seared Halibut), as well as salad and dessert included with the fun!  See Bill Cropper for sign up.
  • Gary Howell gave his “two minute talk”.  Originally from North Carolina, Gary and his wife of 33 years, Cindy, have 3 children.  He spent 3 years in the Army; much of that time in Frankfurt, Germany.  Gary is a nutritionist by trade; currently working with Hank Engster at Perdue Farms, Inc.  He’s a golfer and is looking forward to getting to know everyone!
  • New member has been proposed by Lee Whaley: Rita Lamb; classification – Higher Education.  Board has reviewed her application.  Please contact Steve Capelli with any questions or objections.
  • Kurt Schuster hosted Bethesda Boy Scout Troop #149 which spent Saturday cleaning up and the night at RSCC.  President Marion noted that recently 40 Girl Scouts had used the facility for a day.

ProgramGeorge Whitehead introduced Brian Garrett, representing Delmarva Discovery Center.  Brian informed us that renovations on the Duncan Building (located on Market Street at the waterfront in downtown Pocomoke City) which will house the Center are complete.  The Center will be a place to learn about Delmarva’s rich history, the Pocomoke River and its cypress swamps, and the river’s human history through interpretive exhibits. These exhibits will explore relationships between wildlife and human influences on the river and the Delmarva area.  Exhibits include:  Introductory Theater, Native American, The River, The Wharf & the Steamer, Shipbuilding & Woodworking, Fishing/Oyster Tonging, Industry & the River.  Anticipated that exhibit construction and installation will occur during 2007 – 08, with grand opening scheduled for Spring 2008.  Memberships will be offered.  More information is available at:  www.delmarvadiscoverycenter.org.
