Marion Keenan Guests Hunter Smith, Guest of John Broyhill Visiting Rotarians Bob Widdowson Sick & Hospital Jock McNair – Surgery Announcements Steve Capelli gave an update on the Vic Laws match offer. We have until July 31, 2007 to raise $10,000. Vic Laws as offered to match our funds raised, which will completely eliminate the debt on the Scout House. We are about ˝ way there! Tangier Boat Cruise August 23rd. Cost is $45 per person and the boat leaves the Crisfield dock at 6:00pm. Main Program Salvation Army West Side / Richard Hazel Youth Center Mark Thompson gave us an update on the activities and programs being held at the Richard Hazel Youth Center. Mark left a career with Fed X on July 8, 2004 and started working with the Salvation Army. Through his leadership, many new programs have been initiated at the West Side facility. Latch Key Program – After School program that provides tutoring, arts and crafts, meals, and adult mentors LIVE – Middle School program that provides tutoring and field trips Youth in Motion – 200 kids per day play football and soccer. Fellow Rotarians Dave Downes and Gary Mackes are instrumental in helping with this program. New Day Youth Development Center – Works with 300-400 suspended kids working on anger management skills. Current needs at the facility are: Mentors and Coaches, Tile in Latch key room, New or used computers capable of running XP, 15 passenger Mini Bus. 50/50 Winners Mike Hickson and Tom Wieland Enjoy Rotary! |
