Main Program:

Gary Mackes introduced tonight’s speaker, Jayme Weeg, President of Junior Achievement.

Jayme spoke to the history of Junior Achievement (JA), noting that the Eastern Shore Chapter will soon be celebrating its 20th anniversary.  The organization leads 150 classes in business and financial education classes throughout 6 counties, reaching more than 3,000 students in 35 schools.  She expressed her firm belief that early educational relationships between business professionals and students provide tangible value to the business community and society as a whole.  With the help of donation from Rotary International JA headquarters has expanded its reach to send programs to Russia. The local chapter can be helped with additional volunteers and corporate sponsorships.  She noted that a major fundraiser for them – Golf Tournament at Chesapeake Hyatt – is scheduled October 19th.  She ended the presentation with a favorite quote:

“A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started.  He or she is going to sit where you are sitting and when you are gone, attend to those things which you think are most important.  You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they will be carried out depends on him.  He will assume control of your cities, states, and nations.  He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities and corporations.  Your policies are going to be judged, accepted or condemned by him.  The fate of humanity is in his hands.  So it might be well to pay him some attention.”
